The Walking Classroom - Salt Lake City
The Walking Classroom (TWC) is an innovative educational program that enhances students’ mental, physical, and academic health.
Designed for students in grades 3–8, the program is simple yet highly effective: students take a brisk walk while listening to standards-aligned educational podcasts. Each podcast is supported by lesson plans, comprehension quizzes, and additional activities to deepen learning.
The Walking Classroom offers nearly 200 podcasts covering English Language Arts, social studies, and science topics.
Key Benefits:
- Supports diverse learners: Ideal for students with dyslexia, autism, ADHD, and other learning differences.
- Promotes physical health: Combines exercise with education, encouraging active lifestyles.
- Flexible delivery: Can be used in the classroom or in remote learning settings.
- Boosts learning outcomes: Research from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) shows that students who walk while listening to TWC podcasts absorb more information, retain it longer, and perform better on cognitive tests compared to students who remain seated.
Educators consistently report higher student engagement, greater motivation to learn, and even improved attendance on Walking Classroom days.
By bringing movement into learning, The Walking Classroom helps students thrive, in the classroom, at home, and beyond.
