CARE - Thailand
The bioMérieux Endowment Fund supports CARE France in its efforts to promote early childhood development in Thailand.
Since April 2024, the first project with CARE France has aimed to strengthen teaching capacities and improve the quality of early childhood development (ECD) centers and primary schools serving children aged 3 to 8 in isolated and disadvantaged communities across seven provinces.
Key results:
- 16 centers and schools have been renovated and equipped (play areas, educational materials).
- Around 300 children have benefited from safe and inclusive learning environments.
- Over 1,350 parents, teachers, and community representatives have received training in child development and protection.
- Several parent–child activities have been organized (sports days, reading clubs, science camps…), strengthening family bonds.
New project 2025–2026:
In response to ongoing challenges in remote communities (lack of infrastructure, limited awareness of child development, gender inequality), a new project has been submitted as part of the 2025 call for proposals.
Objective:
To support the holistic development of children aged 0 to 8 in 19 schools across four underserved provinces by:
- Improving school infrastructure: renovating classrooms, play areas, sanitation facilities, and providing educational and health supplies.
- Strengthening caregiver and educator capacity: training 525 parents and 130 teachers in child development, positive parenting, and gender equality.
- Building sustainable community support systems: integrating child development models into local policies, establishing emergency funds, and creating community-based child protection mechanisms.
This new phase builds on the positive outcomes of Phase I, which showed that changes in adult behavior directly benefit children’s development.
