Plan International Hong Kong: Advancing Inclusive Early Childhood Development in North Jakarta

Founded in 1937, Plan International is one of the world’s leading development organizations promoting children’s rights and gender equality. Operating in over 80 countries, it works toward a just world where every child can thrive, with a particular focus on girls’ empowerment.

In North Jakarta, many families face limited access to quality early childhood education, a lack of trained teachers, and scarce safe spaces for children to play and learn. To address these challenges, Plan International Hong Kong launched a 24-month project in Rawa Badak Selatan to promote inclusive and holistic early childhood development for children aged 0–6.

The initiative trains parents—especially fathers—on positive parenting, health, and nutrition; strengthens the skills of Early Childhood Development teachers and administrators; and improves local facilities to create safer, more engaging learning environments. It also develops communication materials and revitalizes community spaces to support family participation in early learning.

Over two years, the project will directly benefit 1,200 children, 800 parents and caregivers, and 150 educators, ultimately reaching more than 55,000 people across 11 neighborhoods. By enhancing parenting practices and improving Early Childhood Development services, the project lays the foundation for children’s healthy growth, emotional well-being, and successful transition to primary school.
