Supporting Mothers with Intellectual Disabilities and Protecting Their Children in Madrid.

The project supported by the bioMérieux Endowment Fund 46 mothers with intellectual disabilities in their daily lives and parenting responsibilities, ensuring the healthy development of their 70 children aged 0 to 8.

In Spain, these mothers often face double discrimination—as women and as people with disabilities. Many are single parents, sometimes exposed to gender-based violence, with limited access to tailored resources. Their precarious living conditions and lack of support increase the risk of child institutionalization.

The A LA PAR Foundation provides personalized assistance to strengthen parenting skills, promote emotional bonds, and foster each child’s full development. Its comprehensive approach combines educational, psychosocial, and practical support, helping families progress toward independence and stability.

Main objectives of the project :

  • For children: provide a safe, nurturing environment; encourage psychomotor and emotional development; and support school integration through tutoring and after-school activities.
  • For mothers: improve coordination of available services, facilitate access to employment and social support, and prevent family separation.

Through this program, Fundación A LA PAR empowers mothers to build stable, nurturing environments—ensuring every child’s right to grow, learn, and thrive.
