Save the Children - China and Philippines

For over a century, Save the Children has been at the forefront of advancing children’s rights across the globe. On the ground, the nonprofit responds to the needs of children in crisis, as well as those in marginalized or hard-to-reach communities. Through innovative and collaborative programs, Save the Children addresses some of the most pressing challenges facing children today.

The bioMérieux Endowment Fund first partnered with Save the Children in 2013 in Shanghai. The project supported young children (aged 0-6) from low-income families whose parents were migrant workers. Welcomed in kindergartens, these children benefited from an environment conducive to learning, enabling them to develop their full potential.

Our partnership later expanded to the Philippines, with a project aimed at optimizing Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) and education systems to deliver integrated and inclusive programs. This initiative focused on children aged 0-4 -particularly those with developmental delays or disabilities and living in poverty - ensuring that every child could reach their full potential.

In 2024, a new project was launched in Hong Kong, targeting kindergarten children aged 3-6 from low-income and minority families. Through partnerships with eight kindergartens, the project delivers positive parenting sessions, child protection training for teachers, and activities to foster children’s social skills.

In 2025, we returned to Shanghai to support a new inclusion-focused initiative: Every Child Counts: Advancing Inclusive Early Childhood Development in Shanghai. This project continues our commitment to creating nurturing environments where all children can thrive.

Through these ongoing partnerships, the Fund remains dedicated to supporting Save the Children’s mission: ensuring that every child, regardless of their circumstances, has the opportunity to grow, learn, and flourish.
